Guest Conduct Policy
Oceanus Voyages Guest Safety & Conduct Policy
Updated: January 2026
Applies to: Oceanus Voyages guests, terminals, vessels, ports of call, and shore excursions.
1) Purpose and Scope
Oceanus Voyages is committed to providing a fun, safe, respectful, and secure cruise experience for all guests and crew. This Policy sets standards of conduct that guests must follow in and around port terminals, onboard Oceanus Voyages vessels, at ports of call, and during shore excursions.
This Policy is a condition of boarding and remaining on Oceanus Voyages vessels and within Oceanus port terminal areas. Guests must also comply with all applicable laws of the jurisdictions visited.
This Policy contains important terms, including enforcement rights, potential fines/penalties, and limitations that guests should read carefully.
Captain’s Authority
Nothing in this Policy limits the Captain/Master’s overriding authority under applicable national or international law to take actions the Captain deems necessary to maintain health, safety, and security.
Policy Updates
This Policy remains effective until Oceanus Voyages updates or modifies it. Changes may be effective without notice/publication, although Oceanus will endeavor to post updates in a timely manner (including on its website).
SECTION 1.0 Definitions For purposes of this Policy (and interpreted broadly): “Oceanus Voyages” means the vessel and all owners, operators, employees, agents, crew, charterers, and representatives acting on its behalf. “Guest” includes all persons traveling under the Oceanus ticket contract (including accompanying minors), and where applicable, heirs/representatives. “Cruise Party” is interpreted broadly and may include: 1. Persons in the same stateroom/reservation, 2. Persons across multiple staterooms/reservations, and 3. Persons Oceanus reasonably determines to be legally/socially related or otherwise connected at any time before or during the voyage. “Travel Party” is interpreted broadly in the same manner as Cruise Party. “Vessel” means any Oceanus Voyages ship the guest is traveling on (or any substituted vessel used to perform the ticket contract).
SECTION 2.0 Enforcement of This Policy
2.1 Guest Responsibility; No Compensation if Enforced If Oceanus Voyages enforces this Policy, guests/travel parties are responsible for all related costs and arrangements (including accommodations and transportation home), and Oceanus will not be liable for refunds or compensation associated with removal/denial of boarding or disrupted travel plans. Guests are also responsible for documentation required to re-enter their home country. This Policy applies onboard and ashore in/around terminals and ports of call.
2.2 Compliance Requirement Failure to comply with this Policy, other Oceanus policies, or instructions communicated by Oceanus or its crew (written or oral) may be treated as a breach and may result in enforcement actions, including denial of boarding or removal with no refund/compensation. In certain cases, enforcement may apply to an entire travel party/reservation group.
2.3 Enforcement Actions (Oceanus Discretion) If Oceanus determines (in its sole discretion) that a guest or travel party has violated (or threatened to violate) this Policy, or if a guest’s presence creates a health/safety/security risk, Oceanus may take one or more actions, including: •Intervention by ship/terminal security, management, or law enforcement. •Reporting to competent government/law enforcement authorities. •Removal of onboard privileges (which may include detention/quarantine/confinement in a stateroom or holding area at the guest’s expense), and oceanus may retain card details and charge costs associated with such detention. •Confiscation of illegal/contraband/prohibited items (which may be turned over to law enforcement). •Legal action. •Denial of boarding or removal from the vessel. •Denial of boarding on future oceanus voyages sailings; and/or •Imposition of a fine up to $500 for physical altercations or assault occurring at/near terminals or onboard. Oceanus determinations and enforcement decisions under this Policy are final and exercised in Oceanus’s sole discretion.
SECTION 3.0 — Safety and Security
3.1 Security Instructions and Screening Guests and cruise parties must follow instructions from onboard/terminal security at terminals, onboard, ports of call, and shore excursions. Refusal may result in enforcement actions, including denial of boarding or removal. Guests may be subject to security screening: •Before boarding at embarkation, •At ports of call, and •At other times oceanus deems necessary during the voyage. Oceanus requires a security photo for each guest/travel party member. During photo capture or screening, guests may be asked to briefly remove face coverings, hats, costumes, or other items that impede identity verification. Refusal to participate may result in denial of boarding or removal.
3.2 Mandatory Safety Drill (Muster) All guests and cruise parties must attend the mandatory safety drill (“Muster”), review essential safety information, report to their designated muster station, and follow Captain-issued health and safety instructions.
3.3 Guest Reporting Obligation (Safety / Security / Medical) Guests and cruise parties must immediately report illness, injuries, unsafe conditions, or illegal behavior to ship security or vessel management (including via Guest Relations). Delay may hinder effective response, evidence preservation, or timely law enforcement notification.
3.4 Tampering With Fire Safety Systems Oceanus may take action against any guest/travel party who tampers with or interferes with fire detection or firefighting equipment, including (examples): smoke detectors (public areas or staterooms), break-glass points, exit signs, fire safety doors, alarms, and extinguishers. Consequences may include: •Charging costs incurred due to tampering (repair/replacement), •A penalty fine up to $500 per guest, •Disembarkation/removal at oceanus discretion, and/or •Involvement of law enforcement depending on severity. If tampering is discovered after disembarkation, Oceanus may charge the card on file for repair/replacement costs and a penalty fine up to $500 per guest.
SECTION 4.0 — Health
4.1 Compliance With Health Measures Oceanus maintains health policies consistent with applicable guidance. Guests must follow health and safety instructions and posted signage. Failure may lead to disciplinary action, including denial of boarding or removal, including potential action affecting the guest’s travel party. Oceanus reserves the right to deny boarding to guests exhibiting symptoms of communicable disease (including COVID-19) or whose screening indicates possible infection and may also deny boarding to close contacts or members of the travel party in Oceanus’s sole discretion.
4.2 Pre-Boarding Testing / Screening (When Required) When necessary, Oceanus may conduct mandatory health screenings prior to boarding. Guests must provide accurate information and cooperate with Oceanus (and its agents/service providers) in gathering health information and performing health-related processes. Refusal to provide health information or willfully providing inaccurate information may result in denial of boarding, quarantine, or other disciplinary action.
4.3 Reporting Symptoms (Communicable Disease) Any guest experiencing symptoms of a communicable disease, however mild (including COVID-19 symptoms, diarrhea, or vomiting)—must immediately return to their stateroom and report illness by calling the onboard medical facility. Guests must also report symptoms affecting members of their travel party (or ensure those people are isolated and report). Failure to report or willfully misreport symptoms is a violation and may lead to discipline, including debarkation. Guests must comply with all treatment instructions from crew/medical personnel; failure to do so is a violation.
4.4 Quarantine / Isolation Oceanus may confine a guest or others in the guest’s travel party to a stateroom or place them in quarantine to prevent disease spread, including moving guests to a stateroom designated for isolation. Guests must follow crew instructions throughout isolation/quarantine and cooperate fully during disembarkation procedures.
4.5 Hand Washing Guests must wash hands with soap and hot water after using restrooms and before eating/handling food; thorough hand washing for at least 20 seconds is required.
SECTION 5.0 — Guest Conduct
5.1 General Requirement Guests agree to comply with conduct requirements and all instructions. Failure may result in disciplinary actions including denied boarding or removal, including action affecting the guest’s travel party.
5.2 Government Directives Failure to comply with directives from government entities/officials or applicable governmental laws/regulations is a violation.
5.3 Searches and Identity Verification Refusal to permit a search for one’s person or property is a violation. Refusal to produce identification upon request is also a violation.
5.4 International Travel Documentation If a guest crosses an international boundary and their travel documents (or their travel party’s documents) are not in order—or if transportation would be unlawful—that is a violation.
5.5 Failure to Follow Rules / Ticket Contract Failure or refusal to comply with (1) any directive from the Master/Captain, (2) Oceanus rules/regulations and this Policy, or (3) any term of the Oceanus ticket contract is a violation.
5.6 Guest Conduct or Condition (Oceanus Right to Refuse Booking/Boarding/Transport) Oceanus’s policy is that guests and crew have the right to be treated with dignity and respect. Oceanus may refuse a booking, deny boarding, or remove a guest from vessel/port facilities when reasonably necessary (in Oceanus’s sole discretion) for the guest’s safety, the comfort/safety of others, or prevention of property damage. Oceanus may retain credit/debit card details presented at registration and charge amounts Oceanus deems necessary to cover costs/expenses related to detention or removal, or alternatively send an invoice to the registered address. Law enforcement may be involved depending on severity. Examples (non-exhaustive) of situations that may justify refusal/denial/removal include: a) Verbal abuse, offensive language, threats, disorderly or violent behavior, including abusive language directed at other guests, crew, terminal employees, or officials; as well as inappropriate/abusive conduct (uninvited physical contact, solicitation, harassment, vandalism, theft, violence, fake/false ID, underage drinking, providing alcohol to underage persons, illegal substances, or other illegal/offensive conduct). b) Lewd/indecent/obscene/outrageous or abusive behavior, including offensive clothing/accessories (nudity/profanity/sexual innuendo), content promoting hatred/violence/negative racial or ethnic commentary; placing signs/banners/decorations on the exterior of the vessel; or placing materials inside the vessel (including stateroom doors/corridors) without management permission or deemed inappropriate. c) Self-harm, including attempts, statements, or conduct indicating intent to self-harm. d) Interference with employee duties or refusal to obey employee/crew instructions. e) Contagious disease potentially transmissible to others during the cruise. f) Hazardous conduct that may endanger the guest, employees, crew, or other guests. g) Serious illness presenting danger to others. h) Conduct creating an unreasonable risk of abuse, offense, or annoyance to others. i) Conduct creating risk of harm/damage to the vessel/Oceanus property or others’ property. j) Soliciting/protesting, including selling/advertising onboard or demonstrations/protests Oceanus deems detrimental to onboard atmosphere/enjoyment or contrary to concessionaires/vendors’ rights/expectations. k) Prior violation on previous Oceanus sailings (or affiliates) resulting in early removal, denial of boarding, or other discipline. l) Climbing on the vessel / tampering / restricted areas, including sitting/standing/lying/climbing on railings/barriers; tampering with equipment/systems; entering crew-only/restricted areas; or other unsafe behavior including failing to follow security instructions. m) Pool-area and deck conduct, including: no reserving pool/deck/theater chairs; no topless sunbathing; no boom boxes/speakers/loud radios; and no use onboard of roller blades/skates, skateboards, scooters, surfboards, bicycles, drones, or similar items—except approved mobility aids for special needs.
5.7 Alcohol Violations of alcohol policy—such as underage drinking, providing alcohol to minors/young adults, alcohol “drinking games,” or failure to consume responsibly—may result in discipline up to and including debarkation at any port or denial of boarding. No voyage/repatriation costs, airfare, or other expenses will be reimbursed in such cases. Oceanus may revoke or restrict drinking privileges of any guest regardless of age, and staff may refuse service to guests who do not consume responsibly and may request age verification. Minimum drinking age onboard: 21. Oceanus may impose a fine up to $500 per violating guest and/or travel party member and charge the card on file, and/or take other legal action depending on severity.
5.8 No Smoking or Vaping (Including E-Cigarettes) Smoking is permitted only in designated outdoor deck smoking areas as posted onboard or as confirmed by Guest Services. All other areas are non-smoking, including public rooms, restaurants, staterooms/suites, verandas, and halls. This includes electronic cigarettes. Violation may result in a vessel safety fine up to $500 per guest/travel party member and charges to the card on file and/or other legal action depending on severity. Oceanus may also charge additional cleaning costs and/or loss of revenue caused by smoking in non-smoking areas.
5.9 Minors and Young Adults Definitions: •Minor: under 18 •Young adult: 18–21 Supervision: Parents/guardians are responsible for the behavior and appropriate supervision of accompanying minors/young adults at all times (terminals, onboard, ports of call, shore excursions), even when not physically present. Disembarking: A parent/guardian must not disembark the vessel without their accompanying minor(s) unless appropriate supervision arrangements are made for the minor(s) onboard. Public areas: Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult in their cruise party in all public areas onboard. Curfew: Guests under 18 must be clear of public areas by 1:00 a.m. unless accompanied by an adult in their cruise party. Pool: Guests under 18 may use the pool only in the presence of an adult in their cruise party who is 21+; no running in pool areas. Shore excursions: Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult in their cruise party who is 21+ to participate; some excursions may have additional minimum age requirements. Respectful play / volume / dining / elevators / furniture: •Play is welcome in designated areas only; no disruptive running/jumping/games in non-designated areas. •Indoor public spaces require indoor voices; avoid shouting/loud noises. •In dining areas, minors/young adults should remain seated; no running/playing. •Elevators should be prioritized for guests with mobility needs; no playing with elevator buttons. •No climbing on or jumping off furniture to prevent damage/injury.
5.10 Guest and Crew Interaction Crew members may not engage in physical relationships with guests, may not socialize with guests beyond professional duties, and may not be in guest staterooms except when performing ship duties. Guests must respect these rules and are similarly prohibited from physical relationships with crew. Guests may not enter restricted or crew-only areas, including crew staterooms and corridors.
5.11 Prohibited Items Guests are subject to disciplinary action if they bring prohibited items onboard, including: •Items that generate heat or open flames (e.g., irons, hotplates, candles, incense) or other fire hazards. •Illegal drugs/substances (including medical marijuana unless specifically pre-approved for special needs), and such substances may not be used at any point during the voyage including terminals, shore excursions, or onboard; illegal substances may be confiscated and may lead to removal and involvement of legal authorities, and guests may face arrest/prosecution and be denied re-boarding. •Weapons, explosives, or any item presenting risk of harm to people or property (subject to confiscation and action by security). •Non-alcoholic beverages (including water, soda, juices) may not be brought onboard as carry-on or checked luggage on embarkation and port days, except for pre-approved special-needs exceptions.
5.12 Charges for Removal of Oceanus Property Oceanus may charge the credit/debit card on file for the replacement cost (including shipping) of items removed from terminals or the vessel without written consent or valid proof of purchase/receipt. Oceanus may do so even if the missing item is discovered after disembarkation.
5.13 Property Damage Charges and Billing Guests and cruise parties are liable for damage of any kind to Oceanus property (vessel, terminals, ports of call, cruise terminal premises). Oceanus may charge the credit/debit card on file for costs to rectify damage (including if discovered after disembarkation) and may include charges for missing/damaged items, smoking/cleaning fees, guest compensation, and related costs.
